Tips and abbreviated advice for attending a multi-day event.
Good day fellow airsofter's. I wanted to compile a short list of things that will help if you have never been to a multi-day event. You have to keep in mind that yes you are airsofting, but you are also camping as well.
Things to bring:
Airsoft: Replica (two is one, one is none) x2 Side arm Loaded mags (yes loaded, don't wait to do it at the event, it will only slow you down) Batteries (plural) that have been Charged the night before (keep several for your AEG) BB's (enough for the weekend, it is up to you on trigger control.. don't run out!) C02, Green gas, HPA Uniform (includes cover, gloves, shemagh, top, bottom) Eye Pro (x2 if you can, bring a fog wipe to leave in your gear) Boots Charger Radio + extra Batteries Mags Speedloader Molle Gear (chest rig etc) Watch Camelback or canteen Flashlight chem lights
Camping: Tent Sleeping bag pillow First aid kit Towel Toiletries (wet wipes are awesome) Duct Tape Cooking supplies (stove, lighter, propane, utensils) balm cream for chaffing Car charger/inverter Fold-able Table Camp Chairs Cot Generator (if you dont have an inverter) Paper towels large Trash bags
Clothes: Socks x 3 underwear sleeping apparel (if not on the field) sunglasses pants, shirts
Food: High energy snacks - Granola, peanuts, clif bars, energy bars, tuna etc(NO "ENERGY" DRINKS BAD BAD BAD) Pedialite - Yes, the shit your little sister drinks. It has lots of electrolytes in it Water, water, water Dinner items (BBQ, left over pizza, hoggie sandwich etc) Breakfast items (high carbs) Lunch Items (on the field MRE's etc)
Any food you take needs to be simplified and not take up a lot of prep time. Any and all food needs to be healthy, no junk food or empty carbs, that will just make you tired and fatigued.
Now, here is my personal take on weekend events. I have attended about a dozen multi-day airsoft events over the past number of years, so I will try to compile what works best. Is it the best for EVERYONE? no. But it might help you. I also value feedback from other players on what helped them.
- Read the damn OpOrd/Safety/Rules BEFORE SHOWING UP. Nothing pisses players off more than having someone ask a question that is clearly stated in the opord. - Don't get bogged down in trying to carry EVERYTHING you own when it comes to your gear. It may look tacticool in the parking lot, but it will be either heavy, annoying, worthless or creates problems when you have been out running and jumping for 13+ hours. Only bring what you NEED onto the field. - Bring food into the AO. When you get a rest you can much down a granola bar or tuna and it will give you energy. - Bring more water. You think that is enough? well, it's not, bring more. It's always better watering the plants after the game then begging to get more during the game. - Take all that shit off your legs. The more you can carry on your kit, the better. You will be feeling the lactic acid build up in your thighs if you are running up and down hills all day, the last thing you need is to strap more weight on to them. - Tape your feet. Even if you have good boots, tape your feet. - Get a good radio. Motorola talkabouts are great for kids skiing with their parents, not for airsoft. - Slow down. You have all weekend to play, no need to run hard for the first 2 hours only to be exhausted by the afternoon and quit. - Use good eye pro. You will want to remove them etc, so if you get a good pair of ventilated goggles you wont have half as many issues. - Drink water at every break
A weekend event is nothing more than a war of attrition. The side that has the most players still on the field at the end of the event will most likely win the event. I have been to half a dozen events where the team fell out due to dehydration, lack of energy and the worst of all, lack of motivation. Nothing will destroy a team faster, than itself. If you go to a weekend event, you need to be not only physically fit, but mentally capable of running around for 8+ hours.
I've also been to events where players ran out of ammo, their batteries went dead or they completely forgot to pack a needed item. Please don't be that guy. Get your shit scared away before the event.
Hope this helps.

Good advice, thank you. Specific question about DC: will there be a place to charge batteries? Obviously, you wanna have as many as possible. But will there be somewhere to charge them, or is it more of a, "However much you charge them before leaving home, that's what you have for 3 days" type of deal?
Also, on an unrelated note (if you recognize my screen name), please don't worry. I know that at the first Hades game last summer, I was pretty bad, more of a hindrance to my team than anything, with crappy, unreliable gear, a gun that barely fed (and couldn't shoot straight past 70 feet) and a battery that didn't hold a charge, plus one or two mags that didn't feed worth a damn, and not a lot of skill either. That's changed. My loadout is 100% different. My primary is a G&G FN2000, secondary is a KJW KP-O5, and I have an obscene amount of magazines for each. Several Elite Airsoft Batteries, etc. Most of my gear is top of the line. I'm not gonna list every piece of gear I own, but the point is, I now have an excellent loadout and the skill to use it effectively.
Maybe none of that is worth saying, but I just know that if our roles were reversed, I'd be a little uneasy with the thought of someone having to babysit this kid with very little skill and terrible gear, so I figured it was worth confirming that that is no longer the case with me. See you at the game (hopefully)!

Hey bud, hopefully you can make it to the game. I'm happy you got your gear in line, I've learned through the years that the old saying "buy once, cry once" is the best attitude when buying anything (not just airsoft).
There is no Electricity or potable water supplied at the field. The easiest thing to do is bring multiple batteries. The next best thing to do is bring an inverter or a small generator. I will bring an inverter/charger to plug into my Jeep.. although I doubt I will use it due to the massive amount of batteries I've somehow collected through the years.
Most of my replicas accept larger batteries, I did that to ensure I get the most game time with the larger batteries I own (full stock guns).
Glad to see you are ready to play again. I plan on hosting more events again this summer so I hope you can make it (new ao as well).

One thing I'd like to ad to Nails's suggestions for what to bring: Fuses. Seems like people don't really think about those until they really need them, so bring extras!

How many players will be in attendance (ballpark)? I'd assume a few hundred at least, right? Seems like they're pulling out all the stops on this.
Also, what will the format look like? I assume each team will have a main base in the AO, somewhere they can go for new orders, to catch a few hours of sleep, refill magazines, etc. How will respawns work? With such a large AO, I can't imagine there each side will have a single spawn point. Will there be different spawn points scattered throughout the field that can change hands, providing a tactical advantage?
And where is the AO in regard to the parking area? I'm just running through logistics in my head. I don't really want to carry gallons and gallons of water for me, or my spare rifle(s) all on my person during game time, how will this work? Or will each base have lockers for players? Sorry, this post wasn't particularly organized, as I said, I'm just trying to run through specific logistics in my head so that I can plan accordingly.

You will get an email. I'm not sure about the specifics of the actual game, as that info wont be released until Friday (tomorrow) or after. Or you might not even know the game mechanics until the day before the game... The Bunker is hosting it and there isn't a whole lot of info on it. Keep an eye on their FB page and they should be sending info out soon.

Ok, thanks. When should I expect the email, and what should I do if I don't get it?

Will ammo be for sale at the event? Specifically, .3s?

Glenn from the Bunker will be there with goods for sale. If you don't get an email, go to their main website and on the upper right hand corner is a link for contact us. Send them a quick note. You can also ask game specific questions. Hopefully he posts more info soon....

What do you recommend food-wise, before and during the game? I'm specifically talking about full meals, rather than your suggested snacks.

I've brought left over pizza, hoagie sandwiches, easy to open ravioli. Basically you want to bring stuff that will still taste good that wont require heat and that will keep if left out.(unless you bring a camp stove).
I've done burgers, soup etc, but you have to heat them up and cook them, so I've fallen back on easy items.
Some other items for food: Bfast: breakfast shakes (high protein), fruit, pop tarts (I know, but they are good to eat and you'll burn those calories off quick), gatoraid
Lunch: MRE, sandwiches, easy to open canned items. Some times I eat Tuna fish/crackers, a bag of chips and a sandwich. Since you could be sweating, sodium isn't too bad eat. You technically should be taking in calories throughout the day, so your lunch doesn't have to be huge.. if it is you'll just get bloated and tired.. thus the reason you snack throughout the day.
Dinner: Again, go buy a pizza the day before and put the slices in large zip lock bags. Trust me on this, they keep well and taste awesome when you are tired and hungry. You can also buy pre-made sandwiches from walmart. Keep them in the wrapper and throw it in your bag.
If you have a camp stove, bring pre-made frozen patties and buns. The only thing with that, is you have to bring a cooler with ice etc.
Just try to stay away from junk food.. you don't need high sugar items like twinkies, cookies etc or "energy drinks". The only energy drinks you should have are pedialite and gatorade.
Hope this helps. T
